STEPHEN GROTZ RA, MArch, NCARB

Architect, Founder

Stephen knew architecture was his calling after he designed a home for his first grade teacher as a thank you for taking him to space in a cardboard spaceship. Twenty five years later, he has studied architecture at the University of Virginia and UNC Charlotte, worked with Ruard Veltman Architecture and Buccellato Design, and started a new design department for Simonini Homes in Charlotte, NC. He has also presented a TEDx talk at UNC Charlotte in 2021. When Stephen is not working, he is traveling or coaching sports with his young family.

Stephen is dedicated to serving his community and clients. Since the completion of his Eagle Project in 2012, he continues to complete at least one ‘Eagle Project’ every year for his community using his skills and passion.

KRISTIN STEVENS

Interior Designer

A native of Massachusetts, Kristin attended Endicott College to achieve her BS in Interior Design with a Sustainable Design Concentration. She has been passionate about art, photography, and design for as long as she can remember and has taken that joy with her through a successful career in high-end, luxury residential interior design. After working for several prominent Boston-based firms, Kristin and her husband decided to relocate to Charlotte, NC to pursue a more outdoor-focused lifestyle. Since their move, Kristin has worked for renowned luxury brand, RH, as a senior designer and most recently for Simonini Homes as an interior designer for the renovations division. When out of the office, Kristin can be found spending time with her family, out for a run, or exploring North Carolina with her husband.

DEMETRA KARRES

Intern Architect

Demetra’s background and love for the arts brought her to study architecture. Demetra grew up in Charlotte, NC, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Clemson University. At Clemson, she participated in many leadership opportunities and joined a research project exploring how architecture can influence individuals who develop cognitive dissonance. Demetra interned with Young + Wales Architects in Charleston, SC in 2024. The firm focuses on historic preservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse projects. She enjoys reading, drawing, and hanging out with close friends in her free time.

Heather Martin

Office Manager

Heather Martin is a proud Shenandoah Valley native who brings small-town values and strong organizational expertise to her work. She holds a degree in Business Management and Accounting from BRCC, along with multiple project management certifications. With over 15 years of experience supporting projects in the construction and electrical industries, Heather specializes in documentation management, administrative coordination, and keeping operations running smoothly behind the scenes.

Known for her attention to detail and dependable approach, Heather is a trusted resource for both colleagues and clients. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, reading, and refurbishing old furniture — hobbies that reflect her patience, creativity, and appreciation for bringing new life and order to the things she cares about.
